2014-2015
Head of Mobile Payments Architecture
Orwell Group
I joined Orwell Group to architect disruptive mobile and online payment solutions using NFC/QR codes and blockchain technology in the pre-Apple Pay era. Led the initial technical overhaul and rewrite of the ipagoo platform to financial-grade standards.
I joined Orwell Group as Head of Mobile Payments Architecture with a mandate to dematerialize payments. I brought cutting-edge mobile payment technologies and blockchain expertise to what would become ipagoo, an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) pioneering frictionless transactions via NFC and QR codes when Apple Pay and Google Pay didn’t exist.
The Foundational Challenge
Upon assessment, I found a platform with a modern frontend but a backend that fell short of financial-grade standards. I led a team of 10 engineers through a complete technical rewrite, rebuilding the infrastructure to meet the security and reliability standards our customers’ money deserved. This wasn’t about chasing technology trends. It was about pragmatic decisions calibrated to our immediate scale and objectives.
This foundation became the technical bedrock for everything ipagoo would achieve over the next four years.
